Why and Where to Use 3 Ply Surgical Masks?

In the present times, there are a number of options of masks available for wearing. You have the fabric-based masks, the 3 ply masks which are normally used in the medical profession, and the most effective ones against covid-19- the N95 masks. Normally, a person selects from among these when it comes to choosing the masks. The choice depends on the severity of the Covid-19 variant and its transmissibility. While the 3 ply ones are also good enough to guard against most of the microbes and their variants, there could be some, such as Delta, against which higher-order masks, such as N95s, are required.




















The 3 ply surgical masks come with certain benefits of their own, such as ease of wearing, and do provide a certain level of protection. Therefore, as per any 3 ply surgical mask manufacturer, these are good to wear most of the time. Even when there is no wave of Covid-19, these masks can be put on easily. These do not cause any discomfort in breathing. So, these are good to wear even for those patients who have breathing issues. These masks have three layers of non-woven medical grade material that does not permit microbes, dust, or pollen to pass through them. People who are allergic to dust or pollen can also use these masks to prevent allergies.

These masks are inexpensive. These are affordable to most of the population of the world, even the poor and the downtrodden can afford these. Even the manufacturers can donate some of these to the poor people without causing much loss to their profitability. This makes these masks accessible to a large cross-section of the people. With a large population being protected, the transmissibility of the viruses, especially those which cannot penetrate through its 3-layered defense, can be checked. This will reduce the effectiveness of the virus.

Another benefit associated with these being inexpensive is that these can be discarded or disposed-off easily. People do not have to keep wearing these all the time. However, it has been noticed that the same mask goes on for days on end, or is even washed. The public needs to be educated on this and awareness generation for proper usage and disposal shall be done. Discarding N95 masks might be difficult due to its higher price, but the 3 ply ones can be disposed-off.
